Dear Artistic Citizens;
My name is M. Liz Andrews and I am an artist, curator, arts activist and the founder of LetterToObama: a platform presenting “Letters” to the 44th President through art.
I began the project for the 4th of July in 2009 by mailing a text and image poem to the White House and launching the www.LetterToObama.com website. For two and a half years I have created art, written and produced the monthly online publication “For the 44th on the 4th,” and directed and curated live events in Washington D.C. and New York City. LetterToObama has provided a space for people to express themselves in ways that ballots do not allow and I am excited about the next phase of the project.
On November 4, 2012, LetterToObama will present “Live From Chicago.” Taking place precisely four years after Obama’s historic victory and two days before the 2012 Presidential election, this event will provide a space for political and artistic expression beyond ballots. As the nation prepares to go to polling places, LetterToObama will bring together artists to reflect about the past and present ideas for our collective future.
I am in the beginning stages of planning for this event and am looking for collaborators and contributors. I want to connect with artists, organizations, venues, arts organizers and others who are interested in exploring the ways that art can serve as a space for democratic engagement. I am especially interested in connecting with people who will be living in or around Chicago on November 4, 2012. If you are interested in this project, please email me at LetterToObama@gmail.com.
Peace and Love,
Liz
I was there for Presdient’s Day and the event was phenomenal- the dancing, music, poetry and storytelling – all so inspiring.
Bring us more here in DC.
